STYLE : Unlikely Inspiration
/Lately this season, I have really have been drawn to monochromatics. Outfits consisting of only one color sound a little boring in theory, but in reality they can be very classic. Along with monochromatics, Violet Beauregarde from the 1971 film Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory has been a major inspiration. For those that have seen the movie, you know that Violet was the girl that obnoxiously chewed gum and blew up into a giant blueberry. One thing that I admired about her--maybe the only thing when you consider her gargantuan case of brat syndrome--was her style. If you paid close attention, you would have noticed that she dressed head-to-toe in cobalt blue complemented with a few red accessories. Her trench coat, fur-trimmed blouse, and loose fitting pants were vital statement pieces. Below, I picked out a few items from two of my favorite stores ASOSand Topshop that were modern adaptations of Violet’s wardrobe.
